Garstang Youth Council Mayor Making, 13th October 2016

This was exciting all round as it was the first large event to be held in St Thomas Parish Community Hall, and what a difference it made to our evening – no access issues for a start!  Mayor of Wyre and Chief Exec Garry Payne were part of an invited audience of over 100 people including community heads (scouts, schools, organisations such as RVS, Lions etc) and family and friends of the youth councillors.

Past mayor Myles Sutcliffe handed over the chains to the new youth mayor Lucas Brown.

“I would like to say what a great job Myles has done for the community this last year – he has raised nearly £500 for the A.D.A.M appeal, and a new defibrillator will be positioned on the car park end of High St as a direct result of youth council efforts during Myles’ year.”

Lucas Brown is 13 years old, and he has been an active and enthusiastic member of the youth council for a couple of years now.  He has some bright ideas and will be fundraising for his chosen charity Cancer Research UK (Kids).

Garstang youth council meets every other month at Garstang Police Station and would welcome any young people between the ages of 11 and 18 and who live in Garstang to come along and see what it is all about.  There is no obligation to join, and young people can just remain on the youth panel if they wish.
